I think we can say that it looks like the coast is clear but I'm unlikely to trust any firmware update that appears anytime soon :D

Latest news from Linx HQ, whom I emailed to find out about the 1020 and Creator's Update:

"We're resolving issues with each update and then Windows rolls out another cumulative update that seems to cause a few new problems! I wouldn't advise updating to the Creators update for the time being, there are still a few issues with regards to power and I would hate to hear your tablet has been affected by power issues!"

Don't know if anyone is still following this thread but a recent post on Ghacks website is very relevant.

Basically you will get security patches, but no new updates. So no more cool features for us!

Hint. Try using Opera browser on your tablets. It takes a bit of getting used to but can be set up to compress data and remove (most) adverts without plugins. Makes the web friendly again.

Keep tapping

Contacted linx HQ for latest and here it is:

They are working on a firmware update and hope to have it ready for testing within the next few weeks.

Microsoft could still in meantime push the Creator's Update to Linx 1020 so beware.

I have just tried this on one of the tablets we have and its fixed the issue. However on another that is having WiFi issues the updater wont run because it needs an internet connection. I have tried using a USB Ethernet adapter but still no luck. (My company uses Linx 1020's for one of our products, currently got 2 tablets that have updated and been effected by these issues.)

Confirmed trouble free install to Creator on Linx 1020

Linx seem to have done a wonderful job of patching the 1020.
Installed the patch on wife's 1020. Restarted and waited until I got the 'Update applied successfully' message. Installed Creator Update from the same version and source (USB) that had previously caused the tablet to hang.
No hangs, no blue screens. It all worked very smoothly.
Tablet shuts down and restarts without any problems. Everything feels light and responsive.

This all takes quite a while, so make sure that it is running from the charger.
