Anyone interested in how to install UBUNTU dual boot

by ndg2000 » February 2nd, 2017, 8:47 pm

Hi I have been experimenting with installing UBUNTU to the Linx 1010b with very good results.

Working
WIFI
Bluetooth
battery monitor
sound
touchpad
keyboard

Not working
automatic screen rotation
onscreen touch (works but in the wrong places when screen rotated)

The ISO is not my work and the credit must go to the man behind this website You need to be registered to view this link, please log-in or register

I am interested but afraid to mess up the boot with windows 10!
Done it on ordinary pc with mixed results. Have you tried Emulationstation with Ubuntu on this tablet?

No i didnt
i have Ubuntu installed dual boot with windows with the distro i mentioned in the first post it works well but you have to manually rotate the scren into landscape and also set the touchscreen up in linux so it is correctly mapped to the screen
everythin works except the cameras

Hi

@ theboxseat what device do you have i have installed it to my 1010b NOT 3g

first things first you need a distro that will have a 32bit eufi boot loader on it

the distros on this page have been tweaked for baytrail devices and i have successfully used them so highly recommend

You need to be registered to view this link, please log-in or register

he has a few flavors of UBUNTU on his page

the easiest way i hve found to create the usb is by using this utility

You need to be registered to view this link, please log-in or register

i use the Rufus 2.12 Portable

use the option for install using DD instead of ISO

install the iso to your USB of choice 8 ( i think it needs to be at least 4 gb i had no problems using 8 gb)

restart your Linx 1010b on boot with the USB in one of the ports hit the escape key will bring up boot options open boot options and Ubuntu should be in the the boot options.

this should brig you into Ubuntu live USB

have a play let me know if you want advice on how to install it dual boot (DON'T JUST INSTALL IT USING THE INSTALLER AS THIS CAUSES PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!! BIG problems)

you will have to go to setings and change the screen rotation to rotate right and there are other things you will need to do to sort out the touch screen rotation but you cant do this permanently on the live USB.

if you need a step by step on any of the above i will help

@ndg2000 Can you please provide the steps for install?

I am trying to use Anarchy Linux instead of Ubuntu, but I think it'll work(?)

Also on the downloads page for Anarchy it says to not use Rufus, but I tried both Rufus and the recommended imager and I'm getting the problem where it shows as a device I can boot into but when I select it, it brings me into a file explorer of the USB where I have to select an EFI file but none of the EFI files in the EFI folder work, it just gives an error saying "[path to the EFI file] boot failed". (when I choose "boot from file")

Any recommendations? :D
