Bricked an 810 - Recovery assistance required!

by dacatherall » June 15th, 2016, 12:55 pm

Hi,
Currently have 105 of these devices. Probably not the smartest move now that I've started to set them up. I originally planned to take an image of a 'built' one then write the image back to the other devices, no luck. First device was happily rebuilding with new image then it rebooted and now it's stuck in a repair loop. I've tried unsuccessfully to recover from the recovery partition. Can't boot from USB to hirens or BartPE etc. Manged to boot to WIndows 10 (32bit) from USB but can't interact as i assume the touchscreen drivers can't be loaded. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Dave

Hirens or BartPE will not work as they are XP-based and XP does not have EFI. Put Win10 ISO on a USB along with a USB hub and mouse and keyboard then connect this via OTG to the tablet and reinstall Windows. This is not a brick, only a removal of the OS and can easily be fixed with a £4 USB hub.

Hello friends,

Everything works up to the pre-installation step, does not see the disk. When you use a diskpart there exists a disk.

I can not find a disk driver anywhere.

Can you help me ? Thank you

I am sorry for my bad English.

You will need a usb hub to allow a keyboard, mouse and a usb stick with a bootable copy of windows 10 (x86) on it to be all connected to the tablet at the same time. Windows should install in the same way as on any PC once you have forced boot to usb.

USB should be formatted to GPT partition, Use a disk imaging software like Rufus 2.18 and select GPT for UEFI support otherwise the tablet will not 'see' the connected disc.
Check through the rest of the forum for guides on a clean windows install.

On tablet that is working, install Macrium Reflect Free, and create Rescue usb flash drive. You need an otg cable to connect flash drive to usb drive

Make sure tablet is fully charged.

Then make an image backup of pc to a usb flash drive (recommend 32 GBdrive. It can be same drive as used for Macrium Rescue drive

Then boot on new tablet from Rescue drive (and drive with image backup if different) via a usb hub connected to otg cable, along with a usb mouse. It will not work without a hub and a usb mouse.

A powered hub is better but not essential but make sure either way new tablet is fully charged.

You will need to have tablet off and press power+vol up for 10-20 seconds or so to get to menu to boot from flash drive

You can the restore image backup to new tablet.

Reboot tablet and it should boot ok now

Macrium Reflect Free is the ONLY backup toool that reliably backs up 32bit uefi installations,

I know the abobe works as I did is a couple of weeks ago.
