Bricked Linx 7 - Windows 10 wont boot & no power to USB

Postby rabb238 » August 31st, 2016, 4:02 pm

I was encountering frequent issues with Windows 10 so decided to reset Windows 10. Unfortunately the system crashed during this process, leaving me with a tablet which wouldn't complete a boot.
I wasn't too worried at this point and connected a USB keyboard and hub with the aim of booting from USB and re-installing Windows. However, I am not getting any power to the USB. I have tied a second USB OTG cable, different keyboard, mouse and USB but have worked.
It is not responding to the volume + power button combo to boot into BIOS.

It's 20 months old now so well out of warranty. Does anyone have any suggestions other than chucking it and buying a new one?

Thanks

I've just tried this - it didn't help i'm afraid. The tablet reboots, Windows tried to complete the install, fails and then reboots. After several reboots, Windows Recovery loads however the touch screen isn't working at that stage and I can't select any options and since the USB doesn't appear to be working, I can't use an external keyboard.

Remove the SD card if you have one inserted, the SD can cause windows to fail to install

Yes, you are correct. I keep forgetting this. I had this, then tried without SD card and it worked.
Need to post about this and sticky it.

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately that didn't help.
The tablet still either boots to an error message that the computer restarted unexpectedly the only option is either to click on "OK" to restart the computer or to close the error message which reboots the tablet or it boots to the Windows Recovery screen but without loading the touch screen drivers.
A keyboard or other device plugged in to the USB OTG port does not appear to be receiving power.
Holding Power and Vol Down or Vol Up does nothing except switch it on.
Holding both volume buttons and power shows a message that it is entering DnX mode - I don't know what this is but it doesn't appear to do anything helpful.
Any more suggestions gratefully received.

You have to plug usb devices in before power on.

Thanks - I did that though.
I'm beginning to feel that it might be time for a new tablet.
