Windows 10 Pro and Linx 1010b

Postby ReSearcher » September 8th, 2016, 12:52 pm

Anyone tried installing Windows 10 pro (32-bit) on the Linx 1010b ?

Is it possible/feasible/practical ?

I'm not really interested in the extra functionality of the Pro version, Its the fact that I want to purchase Windows 10 pro (64 bit) for a desktop as well as having the capability to re-install Windows 10 (32 bit) on the Linx 1010b, thus avoiding total reliance on a 32 bit W10 disk image USB supplied by Linx when my OS recent became corrupted. The most economical way to do this is to buy a USB with the 64 bit & 32 bit OS's on it., but as you are probably aware, Microsoft are currently flogging two separate USB's one with the 64/32 Home version of Windows 10 and the other with the 64/32 Pro version.

Pro will run fine on a Linx. You have to install 32bit version.

You could install Macrium Reflect Free and make an image backup of current install - definitely works on Linx 8. I recommend this over recovery drives (see later) as you have no hassle with drivers etc.

You could install 10 Pro on a trial basis to check it out. In fact, you could upgrade to Pro as well to try it.

Additionally, you can create your own recovery drive anyway from control panel.

I've tried Windows 10 Enterprise and it works like a dream! :-)

One word of advice, if you are wanting to connect the tablet to a domain then user the Enterprise edition because Pro doesn't support controlling the Start Menu via group policies. Tried it myself and it just killed the start menu even for local uses.
