'Busy Writing to Disk' message on Steam downloads

Postby bloodr0se » July 7th, 2015, 1:28 pm

I installed Steam and any steamapps to my SD card and I have noticed that game downloads take a long time and frequently pause with a 'busy writing to disk' message or just hang for a while on 0 byte/s current. I have tried it on 2 Wi-Fi connections which work otherwise perfectly.

Is this a Wi-Fi driver problem or disk throttling and if it's the latter then will using a faster SD card fix it?

Thanks.

I'd say your wifi is faster than the SD Card, try a faster one and that should help

Thanks. I've ordered a Samsung EVO Class 10 so hopefully that should fix it. :)

I use a good SD card and it still does it. Pretty sure it's unavoidable and just in the nature of using a tablet for something it's not really intended for.

In Steam you can set maximum download speeds. I've set mine to 2mb/s and the busy message is no longer shown and I get a nice constant download speed with no pauses.

I got a new tablet today (Onda v102w) and I'm using a Samsung EVO 64GB card now and it seems fine, the problem has disappeared completely.

I'm not 100% if the Linx tablet or the memory card was the problem though.

I'm running a Samsung evo (class 10) on the Linx and have the issue. Think it's the hardware not the memory card.

Yeah I guess the TF reader in the Linx must just be a lot slower than the Onda one unfortunately.
