32 GB Hard Drive or 10GB? SDCard Working?

General chit-chat on the Linx 7

32 GB Hard Drive or 10GB? SDCard Working?

Postby RevReese » January 26th, 2016, 7:44 pm

Hi, I bought this tablet some time ago and had no issues other than a problem with the volume buttons which resolved itself luckily.

I contacted the Amazon seller for some clarification about the advertised 32GB hard drive as i only had a 10GB HD with a couple of GB left after the OS.
Has anyone else bought what was supposed to be a 32GB tablet with only a 10GB HDD? the seller didn't reply back about it.

I bought a 32GB SDCard and it is picked up and i can use it for storage (which is the main thing) but i cannot find out how to download apps or games straight to it.
Has anyone got an SDCard working with the tablet and if so how?

Thank you for your time.

Apps will only install to C: drive if I recall.
I don't really install apps, so never really thought about it. Its windows, not Android, ;).

Thanks for your reply! :)

Good point, i think i am still in the mindset of using my old android tablet! yes, they only seem to install to C: though space is severely limited due to not having as much hard drive space as was advertised :(

You can now store Marketplace apps on the SD card.

Go to Settings --> System --> Storage

In here you can now tell the system where to store;

* Apps
* Documents
* Music
* Pictures
* Videos

I hope this helps :)

Thank you for your post! I cannot seem to find the storage options under system settings, but under PC settings-->PC and devices-->Devices it is telling me that music, pictures and videos are stored to the SD card by default, but i cannot find an option for apps.

Sorry for any confusion, i have had this tablet for a while but am still getting used to Windows 8! ;)

I have signed up for Windows 10 but have not got the option yet probably due to lack of space on my HDD due to getting only a 10GB.

Also, about the hard drive issue, the amazon seller recommended i contact the manufacturers as it seems to be a manufacturing fault, i will update here if/when i hear back.

Ah, sorry, my mistake. The option is only available under the latest version of Windows 10.

The upgrade is free but can be a bit of a pain if you're up for getting it from the installation media ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/softwar ... /windows10 )

I can't quite remember every step I took but it was something like;

* Remove every app from the tablet, freeing up as much space as possible (I may have done a reset for this)
* Run the installation media creation tool to a file
* Copy the contents of the downloaded ISO file (after mounting it) into a folder on the C: drive
* Remove the SD card (this bit is important)
* Run the upgrade from the folder into which you placed the downloaded files
* Wait a long while
* Job's a good one

I can't promise that this is everything I did, but I'm sure it was along these lines.

Regarding the HD, if you're referring to internal memory, after the OS and some of the Office apps, 10GB sounds about right for what's left (but Windows 10 frees some of that up as well).

Good luck. I find this tablet a bit of work to keep going, but for the price it really is pretty fantastic.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!
Sorry for the confusion! I am currently talking to exertis about the hard drive issue (I only have a 10GB HDD BEFORE the OS, after that and a couple of small apps i have less than 1GB left which im guessing is not enough to install Windows 10 - which would also solve my SDCard problem as I now know that Windows 10 allows me to configure the card to allow apps to go straight onto it whereas I cannot currently do that with 8.1 :)

Thanks again for the steps, i will definitely use this if and when i get the tablet replaced/repaired and have the HDD to pull it off! :)

That built in storage sounds corrupted, far to small.

As for loading apps from micro sd good luck, didnt work well for me.

Apps that did load were sluggish and games from the marketplace hardly any would work.

Thanks for your reply.

That's what i thought, but i am waiting to hear back from the support people so hopefully will get a replacement or something, until then, i guess there is nothing i can do but wait! :)

Shame about the SD card though. i hope when i get this sorted and hopefully have a larger hard drive, then i can install Windows 10 and configure the sdcard that way and see? i won't pin all my hopes on the apps and games working from the card as you said though just in case! ;)
