General chit-chat on the Linx 10

not sure on the legality, or provenance of these keys, but there's people on reddit who will sell you a 8.1pro key for $25...and many others.
they're legit, as in, not keygen stuff...but whether they're from msdn (does that even still exist?) or via some licensing scheme I am unsure.

Hmm seems I've opened up a can of worms.. We've got the full licencing scheme for education, so I don't see a problem in trying these things out. Frankly if Pro does take up a lot more drive space, for me it's not an issue, as students will be saving work on their network drives anyway. I'll hand it to our technicians and post the results here.. Watch this space.

Thanks one and all.

Any news here Dave? I'm an education user too. How did you get on?

It's with my technicians - who tell me they are very busy. I am pressing them but teaching and learning equipment comes first. I'll keep everyone informed....

I know it's not specifically what you're after but I have connected my Linx 10 to my home server running Server 2012. It connected first time and I have been able to run a full system backup wirelessly - which I am very happy with. Ok, its not on a domain but its nice that I can back the tablet up.

Have you spoken to Exertis?

There's a Linx 10e, which is an educational/public sector only version which comes preloaded with Windows 8.1 Pro?

Really? Hmm. worth a look. Currently my tech guys are trying windows 7, as that's what we got installed all over our site. However 8 pro would be better than nothing.

Thanks for the heads up..

I work in education and have successfully flattened and reinstalled a Linx 7 with Windows 8.1 Pro with no issues. Changing the key from Bing version is not possible. Your IT will want a fresh install anyway. Joining a domain is no issue once Pro is installed.

Someone else has posted recently that they upgraded to pro with a key and then bought/installed windows media centre. I looked at buying pro through the built-in upgrade and got a message that this wasn't available.

I can't see why Windows 7 wouldn't work but not sure about drivers and suitability for tablets, let's face it Win 8.1 isn't perfect on tablets.
