OTG and charging the linx 8 - make it work with any hub

General chit-chat on the Linx 8

So your connection's still intermittent through the hub?
Or it's okay?
It should be rock-solid through a hub - if it isn't there's a problem somewhere.

usb sticks plugged into the non powered hub fail sometimes

maybe a power issue?

I wouldn't think so.
Not, at least, if it's rock solid on the powered hub and you're using the same cable to connect. Is it? Are you?
A usb stick uses next to no power, and if you're not fast charging you've probably got about an amp to spare using the oe charger.
Try another hub? Try the powered hub with no power and just a usb stick?
Have you done a full (forced) power-off yet?

If I deliberately don't use the stub (ie slow charging, like your setup) I can power a hub, usb stick, a couple of dongles and a 2TB portable drive all off the oe charger. If I use the stub I can't power the hard drive (needs a power boost from somewhere) but the rest work fine.

This has me really confused...
Data cables where?

Well inside the USB you've got the data cables + and - (green and white) and the stub as you said just connects the data + and - together so twisting then together, I.e. connecting them temporary by hand works the same just not as neat.

Ok, wasn't using the linx 8 charger! didn't realise there was one in the box, thought it was just a cable so I was using my moto charger! hub working well. Not sure fast charging is working though, I'll give it another go tomorrow

Sorry, Adam, I still don't get you.
The stub is just the chopped off end of a usb cable with the green and white wires twisted together. Are you talking about data wires somewhere else? There shouldn't be any visible.
<need a confused smiley, dammit!>

I've made a much neater stub now, btw - took a bluetooth dongle apart, scraped the + and - connections off the plug, destroyed the pcb inside and soldered the data lines together. Put it back together and it looks 1000000% better than a chopped cable.

Fast charging doesn't ever work for me unless I plug a cable in or switch the linx on with the data lines shorted (ie the stub).
I've ordered some resistors (don't know if they're the right size, using the same as works on the Dell) to try - if they work (shorted across the data lines) there'll be no need to do anything to enable fast charging. Hopefully I'll have an answer in a couple of days.

Yeah I was on about further up where the 3 cables meet, now I think more of it, it doesn't seem like that great of a suggestion after all :p, I was only leaving them cables exposed due to being low on severed usbs at the time.

As long as it works... :P

Edit:
Just a thought - something like this (£1.72 from DX) might do the job - I'm guessing the switch shorts the data lines, and you could make a neat setup with it:
